Maressa Perreault • Intern Architect
Maressa received her Master of Architecture from the University of Virginia, and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art and Architectural History from Middlebury College where she graduated cum laude. At UVA Maressa was awarded the Faculty Award for Design Excellence, the William R. Kenan Fellowship and the School of Architecture Merit Fellowship. Her graduate work focused on the development of innovative typologies for learning and dwelling, applying a careful consideration of context to create spaces that mediate between the individual and the surrounding environment. While at UVA, Maressa enhanced her passion for architecture through teaching, working as a graduate teaching assistant for an analytical drawing course in Italy, and for undergraduate courses in architectural theory and design. She has participated as an invited design critic at the University of Virginia and the University of Colorado.
Prior to pursuing her graduate degree Maressa worked at architecture firms in Boston, where she assisted in the design of a wide range of residential, institutional, and academic projects; and gained valuable experience working with inexpensive and sustainable materials and technologies. She has carried her love for drawing throughout her professional and academic career, using drawing to analyze, explore, create, explain and design.
Coming from a liberal arts background, Maressa synthesizes her love and knowledge of art, science, sociology, history, writing, and math designing spaces and places that shape people’s everyday lives. She aspires to develop architecture that invokes a greater understanding of the place from which it springs.
