Arch11 teamed with Buro Happold and ZGF architects to provide a high-performance “design barn” as the corporate headquarters for Pearl Izumi, designers and manufacturers of the world’s best biking, triathlon and running gear. The 54,000 square foot facility houses research and design, prototyping and testing, marketing, management and financial functions for the corporation. The building form mediates between the organic uplifted geology of the site and historical metal agrarian sheds found in the farms of the Colorado Front Range. The patinaed metal and concrete sheds house open plan offices, daylit shared workspace and more private “pod” gathering spaces. Cooling is provided through passive thermal chimney strategies coupled with high-performance glazing and mechanical systems.
