Horizon House

Designed to house seven pieces of canonical American modern art, this 3300 sf home is sited atop a mesa east of Boulder, CO. The strict form of the three-bedroom pavilion is inspired by the work of Donald Judd and sits in contrast to the sloping landscape revealing the topography as a constant level line. The north wall of insulated concrete dematerializes as it moves east forming a series of abstract pilasters in the landscape. The palette of insulated preciously detailed concrete, aluminum and glass allows the architecture to recede while the presence of the landscape and art moves to the forefront.
