Dillon Canfield, Maria Rotello, Zach Rosato, Dan Boghean and Christa Pisto recently joined the offices of Boulder and Denver-based architecture firm Arch11, announced Principal E.J. Meade. The five new team members represent diverse backgrounds that incorporate the combination of hands-on creativity, technical and graphic skills and leadership experience that the award-winning firm looks for in its designers and staff.

Awarded the prestigious AIA Henry Adams Medal for “excellence in architecture” throughout his program at The College of Architecture and Design at the University of Tennessee, Dillon Canfield also completed a design studio at Aalto University in Helsinki, Finland. That experience along with his upbringing in the Appalachian Mountains informed his appreciation for “landscapes and their relation to material and the human scale.” Canfield’s project responsibilities in Arch11’s Boulder office include designing casework, furniture and interior finishes for a Boulder County landscape-focused estate and farm. In addition to his interest in information visualization, models, fabrication and rendering, he also enjoys printmaking, sculpture and illustration.

A recent graduate of Stanford University, Maria Rotello joined Arch11 after extensive world travel and study of notable architecture across six continents including time spent in the “Zumthor Valley” of the Swiss Graubünden region, viewing seminal works of Pritzker Prize Laureate Peter Zumthor. The immersive post-grad experience fueled Rotello’s interest in the field of architecture. Her advanced graphic skills include hand-sketching, Revit and Rhino, and her current projects in Arch11’s Denver office include design assistance with a new Boulder restaurant and several residential projects.

Dan Boghean received his bachelor’s degree in architecture from Penn State University. As an undergraduate he spent a semester at Rome’s Pantheon Institute and also held the director position for Penn State’s Digital Beehive, a program that teaches students software such as Rhino, Revit and the Adobe Suite. Boghean’s current work in Arch11’s Denver office includes design documents for a Colorado corporate headquarters and interiors for a Denver distillery. He is also part of AIA Colorado’s inaugural Chris Kelley Leadership Program which seeks to train and nurture the next generation of leaders. Outside the office, he volunteers with Habitat for Humanity and IdeaLAB at the Denver Public Library.

Zach Rosato holds a bachelor’s degree in environmental design from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a Master of Architecture from the University of Oregon. Prior to graduate school he worked on what will become the nation’s largest net-zero energy housing neighborhood now under construction in Denver. Following his graduate studies, Rosato worked at Portland’s Skylab Architecture and later at Gallagher Designs on projects ranging from mixed-use high-rise buildings to small-scale installations. His work in Arch11’s Denver office includes 3-D modeling, renderings and project presentations.

Arch11 also recently welcomed its first office manager, Christa Pisto. With her deep background in administrative work and marketing, she is responsible for planning, scheduling, project accounting and overall office management including HR. Outside the office she makes jewelry, fiber sculptures and crochets, and volunteers for the Birdseed Collective, a non-profit that serves Denver’s urban community through arts, entrepreneurship and food programs.

“We are fortunate to have these dynamic new additions to our staff,” says Meade. “Their varied backgrounds, including technical and graphic expertise, hands-on building and commitment to sustainable practices make them all a good fit for our firm.”

Founded in 1993, Arch11 has gained recognition for projects ranging from exceptional residences to institutional planning, mixed-use development and product design, including a 2009 Firm of the Year Award from the Colorado AIA North chapter. With offices in Boulder and Denver, Colo., Arch11 has over 30 combined years of green building technology leadership. The staff’s unusual level of hands-on experience ranges from boat building to furniture making, contributing to its reputation for commitment to craft, detailing and design integrity.
