Mat received his undergraduate degree in Environmental Design from the University of Colorado. During a year of study at the University of New South Wales, Mat focused on sustainable strategies and the architecture of Glenn Murcutt. He went on to earn his Maters of Architecture at the University of Colorado and holds a LEED AP BD+C Credential.

He applies his interest in sustainable technologies and site strategy to his work at Arch11. In his free time, Mat is a competitive pinball enthusiast and browses stacks of vintage vinyl wherever he finds them.
