Susan Massey
Designer

After graduating from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture, Susan practiced for seven years in the Washington, DC office of a global architecture firm. During her time in our nation’s capital, she received her LEED AP qualification and spent her weekends as a docent at the Corcoran Gallery of Art.

A native Mississippian, Susan felt ‘called back’ to the Deep South where she joined the Rural Studio and was tasked with designing and building the “$20,000 House”, a project that was subsequently published in Architect Magazine. From there, she attended the University of Michigan where she graduated with High Distinction, earning a Master of Architecture and a Master of Science in Architecture History/Theory. A Fulbright Scholar to Australia, she researched environmentally sustainable housing policies and practices for 12 months and spent the next several years at RMIT University in Melbourne teaching design studios, theory, communications, and construction in both the Architecture and Landscape Architecture programs.

Since moving to Colorado and returning to practice at Arch11, Susan has worked primarily on single and multi-family residences and workplace design. She and her husband are kept busy with two young sons and a 100+ year-old fixer-upper.
