Echo Ma

Designer

Originally from China, Echo moved to the United States to pursue a Studio Arts degree at Bard College, a liberal arts college in Upstate New York. During her interdisciplinary studies, she discovered her passion for architecture—an art form that uniquely intersect fields like science, philosophy, anthropology, etc. After completing her undergraduate studies, she earned a Master of Architecture from UPenn.

Echo’s enthusiasm for the mountains inspired her thesis project, Alpine Architecture. Using a Deleuzian architectural approach, her thesis remaps the descent route of Mont Blanc. By exploring the concepts of Deleuzian “folds” and mountain morphology, her thesis design intricately folds the mountaineering journey into the architectural experience and then returns it back to the topographical fold of the mountain.

Outside of the office, Echo spends her time either in the mountains or in the blue sky. She enjoys rock climbing, skiing, skydiving, and BASE jumping.
