Roth Living, the regional distributor for Sub-Zero / Wolf appliances commissioned this flagship showroom and corporate headquarters.
Arch11 was charged with the creating a first in class building that would draw attention to and be complimentary of the Sub-Zero / Wolf brand and its outstanding reputation for quality.
Designed to animate the experience of the street at both the scale of the pedestrian and the automobile, the building brings new life to an overlooked part of the city. Located in the heart of the Denver Design District on South Broadway, the project is the first major private investment in this rapidly changing corridor.
The composition is simple: an all-glass Sectional "L" volume houses the showroom and serves as a base for the metal-clad office block above. The office block appears to slip southward from the base demarcating entry to the car park while floating on a transparent base. A simple palette of steel, wood and glass express the interior program on the facade.
Paired in plan and staggered in section with the two-story balcony, the interior stair space with its purposely ‘slow’ ascent is the nexus of the showroom. It stitches the live upper demonstration showroom with the main level. Above the extensive cook top display, a louvered lighting system guides passage to the stair where twisting louvers transform, becoming the vertical screen to the hall connecting showroom to offices.
The building is a study in connectivity: Inside to out, street to showroom, showroom to office, private office to public space and sectionally from ground level to the open-air balcony and sky above.
Walking through the showroom, visual corridors connect the user from vignette to vignette and vertically to the offices, upper showroom events and upward through the demonstration kitchen to the second-floor outdoor space and skies above. The two-story outdoor space houses a working outdoor kitchen display. The folding glass wall at the north of the space connects the outdoor and indoor live kitchens.
Materially, the showroom is a neutral canvas to the richly detailed kitchen vignettes. Each vignette exhibits the potential of different kitchen manufacturers from Boffi and Bulthaup to custom fabricators, and all featuring refrigeration by Sub Zero, cooking by Wolf and dishwashing by Cove.
